Questions You Have About Diabetes 2 Diet

Ruth asks…

Diabetes class 2 boring diet?

Through Diabetes class 2 have had to change my det. Any suggestions, I find it most boring. Fruit shoots me up hich, smallest cake the same. Choc biscuits a no no. Whats left as tit bits? Thank you so far, I should have added that I am 69 and extremely active, and use no added sugar

Sara answers:

My mum is a diabetic and at first it seemed there was absoluteley nothing she could eat.. Do you realise the more you excercise your blood sugar level drops?? Not that i am encouraging you to do a five mile run and then eat mars bar, but you could eat that little bit more sugar.. You can buy diabetic chocolates from thorntons, though they are a bit pricey, £6.50 for a box.http://www.thorntons.co.uk/ThorntonsSite/pages/category/category.asp?ctgry=Chocolate+Collections_Diabetic+Collection&cookie%5Ftest=1. There are plenty of recipe ideas on this site http://www.diabetic-recipes.com/.. You can use sweeteners instead of sugar in making cakes etc.. There is diabetic jam, i know we can get it from morrissons, where we can also get diabetic icecream, just vanilla though.. Also this site is really good fro suagr free stuff http://www.avidlite.co.uk/acatalog/CHOCOLATE.html?gclid=CJO-yLL2nZICFQmIlAodQ3Y76g.. Anyway, ahve a look and hope you find some tit bits.. Good luck!

George asks…

not watching diet, only taking meds for diabetes 2. is this safe?

My husband is type 2 diabetic. He takes his medicine but refuses to watch his diet and is constantly eating sweets. How dangerous is this? He also has already had 1 heart attack 5 years ago.

Sara answers:

Make sure you’ve got insurance coverage for him, my friend, as you’re likely to need it for when he succumbs to the complications that he’s likely to get … If he survives, that is. It may sound like I’m being melodramatic, but the facts are if he doesn’t take better care of himself then he’s headed for a somewhat reduced life of pain and torment, I’m sorry to say.

Maria asks…

if u have type 2 diabetes, why do you have to keep a healthy diet?

why and what types of food do you have to eat?

Sara answers:

You have to eat food that won’t raise you sugar levels. The reason is if you have high blood sugars, you are more at risk for damage to your kidneys, heart, your eyes. These are all affected by diabetes. Eat more vegetables and cut the carbohydrates down or out. (that’s like pastas, potatoes, etc.) Some fruits will raise your sugar, but it is better for you to eat these than refined sugar in like sweetened cereal etc. Eat smaller meals and spread them out about every four hours eating an apple or something to keep your sugars more level than spiking too high or getting too low. Both of these will mess you up.
