John asks…
what is the best diet for type 1 diabetics?
hi i’ve gain like 45 lb over what i should be and i need to loss it fast

Sara answers:
Omg its tough to lose weight when you have type 1 diabetes take it from me. I lost 18 lbs and it wasnt easy I pretty much just ate as much egg whites as i wanted during the day a ton of raw and steamed vegetables, 3 servings of fruit (no bananas, unless you plan on exercising) 80 oz. Of water a day, a serving of protein like chicken or canned tuna, 2 servings of starch (for example 1/2 potato, 1/2 c brown rice or 1 slice of diet bread) and a protein bar each day. Good luck it worked for me

Sandy asks…
What is fruitarianism? And does this diet work for type 1 diabetics?
Lately I have become repulsed by meat, and the thought of eating it. But I don’t think I could eat only vegetables, so I believe the fruit diet could work for me as I love fruits of all kind. What are the basic principles of the diet. I am a type 1 diabetic and my nutritionist says that I must eat meat, however much I dislike it. I have also seen pictures of people who eat only fruit compared to others who eat meat; the fruit eaters have a glow to them, while the meat eaters seem to be pale and unhealthy…Why is that? Sorry about the paragraph. Thanks to all.

Sara answers:
Meat is not essential to our diet, however you must make sure you get enough iron, protein and vitamin B12 in your diet through other means. This not easy, and a vegetarian diet requires a lot of preplanning and measuring, and eating many small meals and snacks during the day to ensure you meet all your daily requirements. Eating a lot of fruit may well play havoc with your diabetes, as fruit is high in sugar. Natural sugars, sure, but sugar is sugar. Try eating a bunch of grapes, and checking your blood sugar after. You will find it has risen significantly.

Michael asks…

Sara answers:
